  • 4/30 9:28 pm - Nice opening, really shows off lots of cool things going on at your school. Lead anchors have good presence and personality. Interesting packages. 2 minutes us a long time for a package, try to keep it between 60-90 seconds, Good interviews in your packs, nice framing and nice audio.
  • 4/29 8:05 am - Good audio. Composition of shots should be zoomed in more so that there is less headroom. Good use of b-roll. ICE story well laid out so the interviewees are telling the story.
  • 3/6 1:32 pm - Nice opening really showcasing your school. Anchors seem confident and comfortable. Model UN story has good interviews (but get in tight on the interviewees- see too much of nothing surrounding the person in the shot). Talk to some students in the story too! Variety show- Glitch at the 3:20 mark, but a solid story involving students. ICE story- good interviews- well put together story- lawyer's mic keeps rubbing in his shirt. Overall, it's a good show. Story length could be shortened so that you can include more stories and more school stuff. Nice work!

Positives: 1. There were moments of creativity in the newscast, which I appreciated. Take for example, the story on ICE and how you implemented video clips from other news stations on the topic of immigration. I don't think a lot of your peers would've considered doing that to break the newscast up and make it a little more interesting. So, good job! 2. While I felt like some of the stories should have been ordered differently, I still felt like your newscast, on the whole, got the job done. As in, it did what is expected out of TV newscast... to inform and sometimes entertain. They were no points where I was left with questions like, "why did you do that?"

Improvements: 1. I think the ICE story should have gone first in the newscast. Further, it should have been a little shorter. I say this because harder news typically works better in a newscast if it appears before lighter, feature-y topics. It needed to be shorter for the reason below... 2. There were times where your newscast was just a little too slow. That happened because sometimes the anchors had too much read. Others, because the stories were too long. Newscasts have to be a bit quicker to keep the interest of viewers, especially during this period in time where people are so interested in the quick gratification of social media.

Positives: Good variety of subject matter from pieces that highlight activities in the school as well as concerns in the general community. Kudos to the team for taking on the tough subect of ICE activity in the Chicago area and the impact on local educators. The stories were very thorough and included a variety of voices. Well done!

Improvements: Intros to the packages: try to set up each story with information that's not repetitive to the beginnings of the stories themselves. It's hard.. and I've seen professional newscasts struggle with this concept! Often the first line of the package is the best intro, so producers and reporters may need to negotiate to split up info for the anchor intro and the package. While the packages were full of great info, you may want to look for opportunities to include shorter stories to improve the pacing of the overall newscast. Another idea would be to include a fast-paced tease at the top of the newscast to set up what will be covered.

Positives: Your set build, cameras, lighting, studio production - all top notch. Field gear and use of equipment also really impressive. Nice job. Really great variety of stories. The Stunts story was the highlight.

Improvements: I appreciate the effort to take on major issues like Immigration. Probably had a few copyright issues with the use of newsclips without proper attribution. Be really careful on how you take and frame others coverage. Beyond that story, I'd look for other areas to improve the pacing and flow of the show. The delivery was a little sleepy at times. Keep up the energy!!
