  • 4/30 10:34 pm - This really stood out to me as a special news package. This is one of those stories that isn't flashy, but is very worthwhile. Spotlighting a place like this, but doing it in a way that isn't a promotion, but more of an explanation, is a challenge that you overcame. Some of the video was shaky, but I can also see you took your time and really soaked in this location. The flow of the story is clean and has an arc.
  • 3/12 2:33 pm - It was a good story - interesting subject matter. There were a few generic shots that didn't quite match to what was written, a few shaky shots and the interview angle of one of the interviews was a bit off. I liked how you got creative with your shots and the quality was excellent. Could have used some more nats but overall very nice job

Positives: - Excellent job telling a story about storytellers! That can be tough to do. I thought your interviews were framed well, and overall, you wrote this well. - I loved the start with the natural sound. You faded in your track beautifully.

Improvements: - We need a couple more sequences in your b-roll. It lacked movement and shot variety. Always be thinking wide, medium, tight when shooting your video. - I wanted more natural sound! The start was there. Don't shy away from continuing to break up your track and soundbites with it throughout the package.

Positives: Very well written. Loved how the narration matched each video clip. -Loved the start of the pkg. The use of sound drove the piece

Improvements: -Interview subject framing could be better... Ray's shot should be centered. -I would've liked to see a reporter stand up as a bridge or as a way to end the pkg.

Positives: This story had a nice progression. It started with explaining the importance of preserving local history, moved into the challenges facing the Society and concluding with the question of who will address the challenges and become the next keepers of the stories. The meaningful insight provided by Ray Dykier provided an appropriate start to the package. I appreciated the composition of his interview shot with the books stacked up in the background. The b-roll also gave us a feel for the Society's character.

Improvements: While the script for the reporter's voiceover was creative and thoughtful, don't let creativity stand in the way of telling a clear story. A sharper script could've made the transition between the segments of the package smoother. For example, the transition to the passing of the longtime direct was abrupt. A sentence like "While the Society is performing important work, it is facing challenges, including the death of its longtime director" would've made this transition smoother. Adding some standup shots of the reporter throughout the package would've raised the production value and helped provide more structure to the storytelling.
