  • 4/24 1:50 pm - Really like to see swimming covered. It is not easy to call and the announcers did a great job throughout the event. Picture in picture is cool, and I like the replay graphic. Audio is mixed well. Maybe try to get a camera on the clock and embed in the stream. Nice job on this!
  • 4/23 9:15 am - Great to see this coverage of a non-traditional high school sport. Good lower third graphics. Good use of iso's or cutaways during the event, but shot is held too long. Cut back to wide shot sooner. Picture-in-picture is good. Don't go to replay during live event. Wait until event is over.

Positives: Camera placement is in a good spot being able to see them swimmers jumping off the platform and cutting to a central wide cam to follow. The double-box during replays worked well so that the viewer doesn't miss any of the action. Talent was very knowledgeable of the sport and talked professional.

Improvements: If the central wide-shot camera is unable to zoom out anymore, then the lower-3rd graphic should be located as an upper-left or right graphic so that it doesn't cover the swimmer in the near lane. Unfortunately that swimmer was trailing behind, however when the camera is panning to follow the other swimmers, it should still try to keep all swimmers in frame.

Positives: - First off, this is awesome. We don't see a whole lot of coverage of swimming at the high school level, so kudos to you for taking on a non-traditional sport and doing it very well! - Love the use of the double box to get replays in but not take away from the live action in a long race. Great use of resources! This is really minor, but if it's possible, make sure to mute the audio on the replay so we don't hear the announcers again while it's playing. - Thanks for showing the scoreboard - it isn't the most exciting shot in the world, but it's important for people who are really tracking the meet to see the times being swum.

Improvements: - Minor thing, but the announcers never said what school anyone was from. On a longer event like this you had time to work that in during the race - but at the very least we should know where the winner goes to school.

Positives: Good closeups. Announcer did tell us about swimmer history which indicates doing their homework.

Improvements: Announcer may have wanted to orient the viewer by telling us where the lane was (top or bottom). Also, could have used the swimmers’ name more often than just lane numbers during the race. Once the field is determined (two leaders), the lead camera should have pushed in to the two contenders. Having such a wide shot leads to “vampire video” and we don’t know who the announcers are talking about. Close up camera should have been on at the finish. Also, the director might have made better use of the clock during the race and showing us the elapsed time. Broadcast definitely needed a color announcer to add some facts and excitement to the break between races.
