  • 4/29 12:41 pm - This reel does everything that cinematography really should do- it shows a delight in composition lighting varying camera angles movements. Bravo!
  • 4/28 3:03 pm - You have a really great eye for perspective. Those monochromatic shots early on were a strong choice—it’s a great way to show that you understand light, shadow, and texture without the distraction of color. I also noticed you utilized some 'flatter' shots later on, which showed a nice range of styles. The reel did have a bit of a slower start with several similar shots back-to-back, but it really picked up in the second half. The goal for a top-tier reel is to lead with your absolute strongest, most unique work to grab the viewer’s attention in the first five seconds. My advice would be to take those standout shots from the end and mix them into the beginning to ensure the judges are hooked from the very first frame. You’ve got the talent; now it’s just about the 'curation' of that talent to match the best in the category!
  • 4/6 1:58 pm - PROS The reel displays a sophisticated understanding of mood and atmospheric lighting, particularly in the black-and-white sequences. The use of high-contrast lighting in the stairwell (0:03) and the silhouette work during the football segments (0:10, 0:34) demonstrate a strong ability to use light and shadow to create dramatic emphasis. Additionally, the close-up of the eye (0:24) shows excellent focus control and a clear intent to direct the viewer's perspective toward intimate, narrative-driven details. The inclusion of various environments (from snowy outdoor settings to dimly lit interiors) showcases a diverse range of camera shots and a high degree of technical fluency. IMPROVEMENTS While the atmospheric lighting is a strength, some interior shots suffer from underexposure that obscures the subject’s features more than intended. To improve, the shooter should ensure that even in high-contrast scenes, there is enough detail to maintain visual clarity. OVERALL Overall, this reel highlights a filmmaker with a distinct stylistic voice and a talent for capturing evocative, moody imagery. The technical execution of the close-ups and the creative use of silhouettes suggest a strong potential for cinematic storytelling. By balancing stylistic choices with consistent exposure and smoothing the transitions between different visual styles, the creator will further strengthen the impact of their technical skill and creative innovation.
