  • 4/23 2:04 pm - Excellent story, very logical interviews but your project lacks natural sounds once the story gets going, and truthfully this topic lends itself to so many authentic sounds that are part of a production. You had a lot of diverse interviews but I felt like the B-roll didn’t always match what was being spoke. For example at 33 secs the person talks about it being hectic, but it all looked calm to me, and 50 secs - talk about working together, but footage had little interaction of people working together. Also while on the topic of b-roll give me some more diverse shots it seemed like I kept seeing the same wide shots of the three camera, give me some real close-ups to break all that up. It is great that you have a variety of people contributing to your story, just make sure you match all their sound levels. One interview that I thought was missing after watching your story. Is that of a viewers perspective or at the very minimum let me see the finished product (signing on or signing off - to end your story) Your topic was great, and you have the majority of the pieces and skills to make a great story. I enjoyed it.
  • 3/25 7:13 am - Great start with the natural audio pop. However there were no other natural audio pops in the rest of the story. They key to this category is using the natural audio to help tell the story - not just have it in the story, but it needs to be an integral part of telling the story. Put a mic on the director and let’s hear them talking with the camera operators, the talent, etc. Put a mic on one of the anchors and let’s hear what they are saying while this is all being taped. Use that natural audio to help tell the story and bring the viewers into the story more. Good variety of b-roll - really helped to show what the group was doing at PHTV. Good interviews with a variety of people - different perspectives is good to have.
  • 3/4 11:20 am - As a broadcasting teacher, I really liked hearing about your production process and the different skills you learn. This story definitely resonated with me and you did a nice job cutting your interviews to tell this story. Since this is a natural audio news package, I did want to hear more sound from your studio. When cutting your interviews, think about how you can pause so that we can hear what's happening in the studio. For example, when the one student talked about messing up while reading the teleprompter, pause your interview, and let us just listen to that b-roll. These moments will further support your story and allow us to hear more of what is happening! I loved your opening audio for example when we heard "Quiet on set!" Let us hear more of these moments. When framing your interviews, I would also make sure that your interviewees are not looking directly at the camera. The framing on your teacher interview looked very professional in the opening shots of her- I would shoot for this while filming!
