During their senior year, James Carter and James Campbell, two boys who share almost identical names but absolutely nothing else, are constantly forced into close proximity. Because of their clashing personalities, they quickly become enemies as James Carter does everything to make James Campbell's life more difficult. But things take a turn for the worse when James Campbell takes it too far.
Positives: Solid editing and production design. I loved the music too. Your cinematography during the auditorium scene was beautiful. Love the message at the end. Your sound was clear and captured dialogue well without picking up much of the background.
Improvements: Your scenes are a little short so we're not maximizing conflict. We need to spend time with the characters to get to know them. Don't be afraid to stay in a scene longer. I love that Carter and Campbell help each other in the end, but the change of heart was hard to identify.
Positives: Story: Two high school students with the same name engage in a …heated rivalry… constantly one-upping each other until its boiling point fizzes out into a mutual simmer. Overall, the story is quite engaging and I found myself leaning in as the story continued to unfold. Technical capabilities were on point, the writing is great (especially that dialogue… wowza), and some really strong acting here.
Improvements: My only question here is that we don’t know why the other James C. comes around to help the stammering James C. on stage. The rivalry starts with what appears to be an honest accident, that the “book smart” James C takes personally and retaliates against. The phone call leading up to the big stage moment ends with James C pondering the question posed, “did you do anything to him?” Which I was hoping would result in a public apology via his speech to the other James C, prompting a burying of the hatchet moment. The knight in shining armor moment is fun, but it doesn’t feel earned since it doesn’t feel personal to the dynamic, rather just relying on an innate human urge to help one another… which works, but I have to give notes somewhere. Really great stuff!
Positives: The story is very powerful, and the lessons learned by both main characters are believable and well performed. The narrative builds in a cohesive way, and the character development is especially strong. I was able to relate to both characters, and I think most viewers will connect with the experiences you’ve portrayed.
Improvements: There are some simple color corrections that could enhance the overall look and feel of the project. Adjusting saturation, brightness, and contrast can make a significant difference. While the project is already engaging, more vibrant color will elevate it to a higher level. The end credits move too quickly. Slow them down so they align with the length of your music track, and be sure to fade out the audio as the project concludes.
