  • 4/30 4:01 pm - Strengths: This was such a fun story! Your interviewee was very engaging on camera, and I really enjoyed hearing her story. You captured a wide variety of b-roll showing Mary at work, which added depth and interest. I’m sure your student community appreciated getting to know more about this member of their school. Areas of Growth: Since this was a natural audio package, make sure no music tracks are used, as it sounded like one may have been present under some of the interviews. I would also love to hear more natural sounds, such as Mary interacting with students or cooking, to make the story feel even more immersive and authentic.
  • 4/30 3:02 pm - I love your story, you picked an absolutely great subject - she has a great sense of humor, and a wonderful outlook on life, a story with telling. Your B-roll did a lot to help your audience understand and reinforce what she was talking about. When I saw the ort of 1:17, I thought that is short, what can you cover in that time? You covered a lot in that short amount of time. Great job, it never felt long, and I never felt like anything was left unanswered, good intro, good body, good conclusion. As a news story, good job. As a natural sound package i would have loved more, her voice in the lunch line (saying thank you or have a good day), about the only real natural sound was the chip arranging. With more of that natural audio, your story would have had a lot more diversity.
  • 4/29 6:50 am - Great topic for your story! Every school needs a person like Mary in their school! Anytime you interview a person, you need to use an external microphone to pick up their audio. For this story, you used just the microphone on the camera and it’s not as clear as it could be if you had used a lavaliere mic for her interview, or a wireless mic on her while she was working. If you put a wireless mic on her and followed her around for a few days, you’d hear her interact with her co-workers, with the students, with the staff, etc. That’s what you can include in this package to help tell the story. The purpose of this story is not to just have natural audio, but it’s how you use that natural audio to help tell the story. If we can hear Mary interacting with others, that helps to tell the story - especially when she says she likes working there and likes interacting with the students - let’s hear that.
