You showed your ability to use light in a variety of challenging spaces and places as well as unique perspectives that made the viewer want to stick around to see what was next. Great mix of locations and music to keep the Chicago theme moving
- 4/23 3:24 pm - Keepers: I appreciate the natural sounds at the beginning. The decision to have your reel tell a story helped give your shots substance. Lots of cool compositions in the hotel (0:49, 1:01). The available lighting approach made for some striking frames (0:26, 0:35). Improvements: The reel lacks the demonstration of a wide range of skill. The natural lighting approach and absence of subjects drove your work to a narrow focus. This isn't necessarily wrong, but the narrow focus of cinematography elements showcased must be of a flawless quality. The mix of natural and artificial light create some white balance issues. Focus was mostly strong but some of the composition could have benefited from a clear subject to help define the field of focus and drive the viewer's eye to a specific area.
- 4/17 10:56 am - POSITIVES: Camera: Great job framing your subject, with some variety in shot composition. Minimal camera movement included, but it was smooth. Lighting: Variety of lighting conditions in artificial and natural light that sometimes enhances the mood of the shot. AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: :25 Rack focus is a valuable skill, but your attention should be drawn to a worthy subject that advances a story. Many of these compositions lend themselves very well to still photography, but I can't imagine most of these clips as part of a video story with an arc. Editing is functional, but I don't see much of a "story" here. If this reflects a 12-hour shift at an abandoned hotel, the caretaker or security guard would be in some shots to create some story elements.
