Cheerios

Neuqua Valley
Commercial

Entry Description

This is a 30 second commercial for Cheerios breakfast cereal. It was specifically created to target a different audience than the company typically does. Instead of targeting children, I chose to advertise the product to teenagers. The concept was to show how Cheerio's can remind young adults of their childhood, and I incorporated many ironic elements to the commercial in order to demonstrate this.

Judge 1

Positives: The editing and camera angles were very good. I liked the title at the end.

Improvements: Some of the shots lacking composition and a little confusing.. . for example, the shot of the feet getting out of bed . .I was distracted wondering if there was something under the bed or wires by the nightstand had something to do with the product. Also, the shot of the girl coming down the stairs. . . only her bottom half showed. The title could have used a slogan. . . such as "Cheerios, not just for kids anymore."

Judge 2

Positives: The note from Mom created an emotional connection to the product. Close camera shots created an intimate experience, and editing was concise.

Improvements: The beginning of the commercial created less impact to the viewer compared to the end. The shot with the subject coming down the stairs could have been executed with additional visual imagery.

Judge 3

Positives: The theme of the piece, and simplicity of the ad and straight forwardness of the ad.

Improvements: It needs a touch more action. Heartwarmy, but not heartwarmy enough. Also maybe more shots of the cereal itself.
