I Drive Your Truck

Music Video

Entry Description

This is the Music Video of a song I heard on the radio and thought I could make a meaningful music video about a man who lost his brother in the war.

Judge 1

Positives: I liked the truck sounds mixed with the music. Some shots were really well composed.(i.e. The shot of the truck driving over the camera and the CUs in the opening sequence of the change, etc.)

Improvements: The storyline needs to be stronger. The singer is in profile the entire video. Use more camera angles. The singer is also disconnected from the guy in the truck. The viewer doesn't know that they are brothers unless one reads the description. Add another layer of the brothers hanging out and doing things together. Lip sync is off in spots.

Judge 2

Positives: Nice to key the video - giving the artist credit for the song. Nice visual of truck driving by on bridge at 1:18. Symbolic to use the rear view mirror (at 2:30) to display the past, since that's where he has to keep his loved one. Impressive to show the truck driving over the camera! Nice camera work throughout.

Improvements: Footage of singer seemed a bit out of focus. Be sure to critical focus prior to shooting. Nice to show him at a close-up, but may be better to layer some footage of him from the front too. This may help display his emotion a bit better. Good use of nat sound when opening door and starting the truck, but should've faded it out after that - it begins to battle with song for importance when in the field. Audio seemed to clip throughout the song... Especially noticeable at 1:14. Footage of actor in truck is a bit dark around 1:51 - try bumping up the iris, or changing the filter. Easy to understand the story, but didn't know he specifically lost his brother.

Judge 3

Positives: Pacing was great - fit the song well. Good transitions. The sound effects were a nice touch. Good composition throughout - the low angle on the road was beautiful. Colors were vibrant.

Improvements: The video was very literal with the lyrics and visuals, which is okay, but I thought the visuals could have been more creative as to compliment the song instead. For example, what story are you telling with the visuals that the song doesn't already convey itself? The audio was a little rough.
