Entry Description

A news package about the sodium in ramen noodles

Judge 1

Positives: Good choices of video to illustrate your story. Liked the camera angle of your stand-ups - something a little different draws our attention!

Improvements: Your delivery in your stand-ups was clear and confident - try to get that same enthusiasm across in your track. Read with a little more energy to get your point across. Be careful when using a stand-up open. You don't want them to go on to long before getting into the story. Showing us video sooner keeps the piece moving and keeps our attention. Be careful when editing a sound bite. Use a piece of video to cover the edit. Make sure the audio edit is clean. Nice effort!

Judge 2

Positives: A very good package on nutrition and what is in our processed food. Your piece was very well written and explained the high sodium levels extremely well. Nice use of cut-aways to keep your viewer interested.

Improvements: 1. White balace is off on the first standup as opposed to the closing standup. Look at the skin tones and the color of the boxes and shelves how different they are. 2. There is a discrepency in the amount of sodium you verbally say is over 1,000 grams and the first cutaway of the package. The package says 820 grams. The fact sheet after that shot says over 1,000. 3. Sound levels drop when you go to the interviews as opposed to narration levels. A very nice spot.

Judge 3

Positives: Good report regarding the impact that sodium has on the human body. The shot from above looking a bit down at Hope with the Ramen cases in the background worked well for the open/close.

Improvements: The adult (SOT) talking about sodium should have been identified - was the woman a nurse, a nutritionist - what? Why was her testimony more credible than someone else? The background featuring the young person on camera featuring Aquafina didn't seem to fit with the piece. Also, the READ over the B-Roll following that sound bite was somewhat mechanical. The reporter needed to read it with more conviction.
