Entry Description

I relied on the folk group Milo Greene's song "1957" to highlight the stark contrast of a mundane reality and an imagined dream world. I worked hard to portray the aspect of escapism and how many teenagers feel the desire to reach beyond their limited suburban bubble and explore new territory.

Positives: Some of the shots are of main character were composed well. I liked the rack focus outside and mirror shot inside. The snow angel shot was excellent and ties in well with escapism. The actress had good facial expressions to help carry the story line. The editing was simple and effective. (Super impositions of travel scenes worked.)

Improvements: I think there might be some audio issues. I played this video several times and the soundtrack sort-of skipped in the beginning every time. I would have liked to have seen her escapism be more than just travel. (i.e. shots of her doing things as opposed to random footage of other places.) I think adding depth to the layer of escape with her in the narrative would make this stronger. Were the travel shots original?

Judge 2

Positives: Good video slate. Nice superimposition near the end. Good concept... Liked the story - easy to understand. Nice array of visuals - angles and shot types.

Improvements: Lighting could be more dramatic on girl spinning globe in house... Seemed a bit too dark. Not sure if you actually recorded the footage abroad... It should be all original. Video felt a bit long... I think the song could've been cut a bit, and the story would still make sense.

Judge 3

Positives: Good use of layers and close-ups. The visuals made sense with the song, but still told their own story. The effect on the foreign countries images was cool and expressed the imaginary effect you were going for.

Improvements: The audio had some harsh edits and was clipping throughout. The rhythm was inconsistent - could cut to the beat a little better to make the pacing smoother. Some images appeared to not be original.
