A restricted social life, long hours in the rink, and a determination to DO their best--this defines Becky Lisac's and Brooke Harter's lives as competative figure skaters. This feature shares their journey.
Positives: Very much liked to montage of the skaters in the beginning of the piece. Nice use of showing the second ice skater on the ice over the beginning of her bite.
Improvements: What you say in your stand-up open would work better as track. By showing the ice skaters, then your stand up and back to skaters breaks up the flow. Your stand up close would work better as a stand up bridge, leading into the skaters' sound bites about their hard work. Then close the piece with a tracked sig out. Be careful with music with vocals. You don't want your track or the interviews to be competing with the song. Fade the music down/out during the interviews, then fade it back up - instrumental only, if you're talking. Don't forget to super your interviews! I didn't know which one was Becky and which one was Brooke! Very nice effort!
Positives: Standups were very well spoken and to the point, very impressive for someone that young. B-roll of the skaters was good and enhanced the piece. Music was very good and edited well.
Improvements: The b-roll could have been shot a little better either with less people around or by going to an area where you saw only the skater you were highlighting, but still was very good. Closing shot should have been much tighter on the skater and timed to have her spin payoff with the music.
Positives: The interview segments of the figure skaters was done well - nice contrast to the white ice/rink area. Nice use of speed variations on some of the skater moves.
Improvements: Haley's delivery had a hardness - almost a shout quality at the top of the piece....it was better at the end when she smiled and wrapped up the piece in a voice that was professional but friendly - her script was tight and well written. Not all of the ice scenes had the same color temp - some of the scenes appeared brighter than others - which in post production could have been corrected.
