This is a documentary about Deer Valley resort. Produced by Michael Kappas.
Positives: 1) This video had a nice variety of shot selections - nice collection of angles and shot types. 2) The rhythmic qualities of the editing were effective at times.
Improvements: 1) Video length could be shortened to make a more compelling presentation. At a certain point, shots become extraneous and the amount of narration does not balance it out. 2) Video quality could have been better - shots were very shaky and the cold undoubtedly caused a lot of "jello-ing" (a nice lesson for shooting in different weather conditions).
Positives: Beautiful scenery shots. There are so many mountains covered in snow! Very original idea. Great cutting. A lot of the edits were on beat to the music which is very good to see. Not many videos do that.
Improvements: I understand that it looked pretty cold and windy up in the mountains like that, but try and take your time when shooting. There were a few weird pans, heads getting cut off and too much headroom in places. Take a deep breath, and make a few passes so you have some options while in editing. Try raising the soundtrack during segments where you aren't talking, then smoothly fade it back under when you talk again. It will help the viewer engage in the project.
Positives: The opening was nice. It had a fun beat, and the images cut really nice with it. The interview was a nice touch. It helped the documentary's credibility a little more.
Improvements: Some of the shots were a little hard to watch, a little too shaky. Perhaps have more variety, and rely a little more heavily on static shots. I might interview more subjects, local skiers or some ski instructors.
