This is a documentary on Dubstock, a 6-hour non-stop electronic music festival featuring 8 artists, epic sound & lighting, and cablecast & streamed live in HD. Produced by Mac Koziarz.
Positives: 1) Excellent camera work and video quality. Composition and style are executed very well. 2) Interview segments were well lit and mic'd - very professional style.
Improvements: 1) Music could have driven the piece a little more. For example, the intro could build a little faster and a little stronger. 2) Interview narrative could have been a little more concise. Explanations felt a little too "loose" at times.
Positives: Awesome use of color. This is the perfect event for a visually stimulating documentary. Great editing on the music beats. Not many videos have done that and its a pretty significant method when cutting to music.
Improvements: The intro is a little long with no music or any visuals to back it up. In the age of the internet, you have to catch your viewer in the first 5 seconds or they are gone. Think of starting the music right after the first interviewer. Although for a lot of the crowd shots, a handheld camera adds style and works very well, try using a tripod for a lot of the establishing shots. In wides, there is so much for the eye to see and understand, its harder when the frame is bouncing around.
Positives: Very creative shots from all of the compilation of setup of the event. Behind the scenes setup, to kids dancing in the beams of light with the silhouettes from the smoke. Compositionally beautiful interview segments (color, shapes, placement), and lit nicely.
Improvements: Some of the subjects seemed lit a bit too hot in the interview segments. It was a little too harsh to the eye, just be careful of that. Maybe having some actual audio from the event, the original electronic music playing from those dj's with that footage could add another dimension.
