DHS Choraliers

Deerfield
Feature Story

Entry Description

If the holidays aren't busy enough, try being a Choralier. In Sophie Morrison's story, performing multiple times a day for several weeks is just one way to get the holiday spirit.

Judge 1

Positives: The script is solid. Nice transition into the bus interviews. Nice use of colors in the graphic ID's - goes with the spirit of a holiday piece.

Improvements: The zoom is jumpy on the third shot at the top - it occurs again a few times - it's either than or the way the video got uploaded that's creating that jump. Shot's on the bus could have either used a kick light on the camera or possibly the iris needed to be opened up a bit more. Natalie Salk's SOT is a tad dark.

Judge 2

Positives: Shots of the choir looked and sounded good. Voice over was very good.

Improvements: You needed sound up full of the choir at the very top and at the end. They are a choir let people hear them perform. I know you said it couldn't be helped but interview on the bus could have been done better or at a different location. way too back lighted.

Judge 3

Positives: Nice storytelling - appropriate use of video to help advance the story. Good use of sound bites, mixed with the performance. Nice flow.

Improvements: Be careful with audio! It's challenging to find just the right mix between your track and the background music. Track was a little hot at times. Try to get your interviewees to look off camera, instead of right into the camera. When you're interviewing someone, tell them to look at you, not into the camera. Very nice effort!
