Entry Description

A young girl who doesn't believe she is beautiful goes to sleep one night and dreams of her breaking out of her shell and becoming the woman that she wants to become along with finding the man of her dreams.

Positives: Interesting storyline highlighted by a realistic acting performance. I like the use of the black costume and white costume. The opening of this piece is exceptionally strong. Good edits and interesting visuals. I love the hand motions of the actress edited to the sketching sound in the music. Using the bath tub to sleep is highly symbolic. (Water, baptism, cleaning oneself.) The use of the color red is also symbolic (love, pain, etc.) really stands out (lipstick, tie, berries, etc.) I love the song. The editing is strong.

Improvements: I really like your use of camera angles and the shots are composed well, however, there is too much soft focus technique (i.e. walking to bath tub). The story is really good but I would have liked a stronger ending to the piece. The story ends in the dream, not in reality. Maybe think about punctuating the piece by ending on something profound. Still, I really enjoyed this video.

Positives: Story was easy to understand. Talent did a great job acting. Wide variety of footage used. Nice composition. Enjoyed seeing cuts back and forth between dream and reality. Good pacing throughout.

Improvements: May be better to use a key at the beginning and end to credit the artist. Some exterior footage appeared a bit too bright - try bringing the iris down a bit, or shooting on a day that's a bit more overcast. Didn't understand why the talent made a bed in the bathtub. Was it so she could write on the wall and easily clean it after shooting? Would've preferred her walking to her bedroom, falling asleep in bed, getting up after the dream, and writing the comment on a mirror in her bedroom. Could even shoot her reflection in the mirror if you'd like to get more creative.

Judge 3

Positives: Costumes and makeup were great. Creative editing. Good close-ups.

Improvements: While the editing was creative, I thought it was so jerky that it was distracting. Camera work was shakey - I understand it was trying to evoke a feeling though, but looked unprofessional. The intro was really long for the story.
