How To Save A Life

Homewood-Flossmoor
Music Video

Entry Description

Artistic rendition of The Fray's song.

Judge 1

Positives: Some of the images are nicely composed. (The butterfly shot, and flower shots are really nice.) The female lead gives a solid acting performance--especially after the boyfriend's death. The singer/piano player is interesting. Some nice CUs of the keyboard that work with the music.

Improvements: Another layer to this would make it more interesting. I think you need to do more with the singer/piano storyline besides the performance aspect. How does he fit into the story of the guy and girl? Some of the same footage is used too much. (i.e. girl screaming/crying). Change angles and shot selection.

Judge 2

Positives: Good to include a slate at the beginning. Nice video and audio sync. Good chemistry between actors. Singer was convincing. Creative cutaways, layers and pacing throughout. Nice location choices.

Improvements: Over 4 minutes in length... Video could be shortened to fit entry specification. Story between couple was pretty much over near the middle of the song. Her grieving seemed to drag on too long and repeat too many times - may have been better to fade the song out. Audio seems to clip at times throughout (i.e.: 3:38).

Judge 3

Positives: Great job! Pacing was very good and fit well with the song. Shot composition was nice and good use of layers throughout.

Improvements: While the pacing was good, there was one spot towards the end with syn issues. Man on piano was nice, but location or lighting could be more creative - like make it look as if it was shot in a studio instead of someone's house. Exceeded 4 minute maximum.
