Humorous Narrative

Entry Description

This soap opera was developed to document the "realistic" situations that occur within the Advanced Broadcast Production Television class. This is the 4th episode in the series.

Judge 1

Positives: The woman playing the "victim" was funny and the "all the single ladies" lyric made me laugh.

Improvements: This came across as more cruel or sad than funny. Also, it was described as a "soap opera" but felt more like a prank. I think the execution of this video missed the original mark that may have been set. From a technical standpoint, using the on board camera mic results in poor sound quality with more room noise and echos. Upgrading the audio would at least improve the technical aspects.

Judge 2

Positives: The characters were engaging and believable. The dialog camera perspective was accurate.

Improvements: When you are shooting a lengthy dialog sequence, be sure to vary your shots: tight, medium wides, and over the shoulder two shots. There was a ping pong exchange going on using the exact same shots. It made the scene drag. If you are shooting only ambient light, make sure there is enough for good exposure. The video was very muddy at times.

Judge 3

Positives: Well edited and acted...I liked the low shots of the boy and the high shots of the teacher that established perspective

Improvements: The ending could be a little different...it was good with the boy walking out, but there could have been a humorously over-acted scene with the teacher just at the camera or something
