Entry Description

The storytelling of a man named Alex Wedow, and his love of yo-yo.

Judge 1

Positives: 1) Nice coverage of yo-yo tricks (angles, etc.)! 2) Segments are informative and well explained.

Improvements: 1) Since it's all about Alex, b-roll shots of others doing yo-yo tricks (friends he's teaching, competition) should only be shown when being mentioned. 2) Consider a little lighting design during interviews to set them apart a little.

Judge 2

Positives: Wow, Wedow is amazing. Awesome idea to do a documentary on. He inspired me to get my Duncan butterfly from out of storage! Way to use multiple people for interviews. Most people only get one or two people. Shows great initiative that you got more.

Improvements: He is doing all these awesome yo yo tricks in front of a white wall. Boring. You should consider using more colorful backdrops like even a brick wall outside, or a mural, or a theater. Maybe shoot a few close ups of the tricks so the viewer can really see whats happening. You could have improved on the scene order a little bit. He didnt talk about how he got into it until 2:20 in. That should have been first so we get a better understanding of the character.

Judge 3

Positives: The interview with the blue backdrop looks very good, nicely lit. Great compilation of interviews, b-roll, competition footage, music, graphics, etc.

Improvements: The interview with his dad could have been treated a little better. It looked a little flat and were having some flare from the computer screen.
