Entry Description

This was a news package I did for our news program Spartan News Now. This was done in advance of November's election and focused on how GBN students were engaged in the election process without actually voting.

Judge 1

Positives: Good editing. Good use of b-roll to tell the story.

Improvements: Be careful about lighting and exposure. More student soundbites would be nice.

Judge 2

Positives: Sound bites supported the piece well. Great subjects with great input! Really helped the story. Nice variety of shots. Steady camera work and great editing.

Improvements: The VO seemed very hot. Check your levels or step back from the mic. Some of the shots were a little dark. Make sure your subjects are properly lit.

Judge 3

Positives: Great story idea... Well laid-out story. The topic itself could be boring to young individuals, but the piece keeps the topic moving and explains the importance of it. Good flow of video of students voting to teacher soundbytes.

Improvements: Visually the story lacked... I would have liked to have seen more students and their excitement following their vote. Also, the piece was about students voting and I didn't feel like I heard enough from students. There were more teachers than students. I would have preferred the opposite.
