Where's Waldo?

West Chicago
Humorous Narrative

Entry Description

"Waldo can hide all he wants, but if he doesn't want trouble, he'd better not ruin any sandwiches!" - An original (silent) short film.

Judge 1

Positives: Excellent work getting the footage to look that way. Adding the effect and adjusting the frame rate really helped make it look authentic. Excellent gags throughout the chase scene. The guys falling out of the shed, or porta-potty, was hilarious. And the chasing in the field in circles was classic. Nice work.

Improvements: Not much to critique. I would say, the villans title card in the beginning may have worked better after seeing Waldo in the scene. The villan title came right after the Main Title and I didnt know what it meant at first. Thats all I could really find. Great work!

Judge 2

Positives: Fun film that really captures the essence of old silent movies with the use of sepia, the music, title cards and the over the top acting. Well thought out and stylized video. Great job!

Improvements: Feel like the use of the static was a little too much. I understand it was used to give an old film look as if being shown through a projector but paired with the sepia it felt too harsh. I love it in the film but feel like the static could be lessened, if possible.

Judge 3

Positives: Interesting color and nice use of stylization of the video to give it an old timey feel. Good choice of music. It fit the period and gave your piece a nice pace to edit to.

Improvements: A more definitive ending would have been nice. Something to wrap it up to let the audience know if they in fact got Waldo and made him pay for his crimes or if Waldo got away. Playing with more visual gags would have been nice. Also the explanation of why the sandwich was so important to the Sidekick may have helped elevate the plot. The sidekick goes crazy when Waldo ruins his sandwich yet when the "hero" knocks it out of his hands it's no big deal.
