This news feature story discusses the behind the scenes work that went into The Canterbury Tales. It also describes how the cast works together and what the play is about.
Positives: Nice use of editing effects to give the piece some pizzaz! Good blend of sound bites to move the story along. Nice use of music to keep the piece moving.
Improvements: Be careful when using music with vocals! You don't want your voice to be competing with vocals. While I LOVE the use of music to set the tone, you should only have instrumentals under your track or under the sound bites. Somewhere in your stand-up open you should give the name of the play, "Canterbury Tales," since the director doesn't say it in his bite. Try to make the ending a little cleaner. Fade the music out at the same time you fade the closing credits. Nice effort!
Positives: Very nice interviews of various people involved. Your b-roll was good of the people. Nice sound up of actual play in the package.
Improvements: Lighting: Overall light levels were way to low maybe that couldn't be helped on the rehersals but it is a stage and I have to believe it had lights. If not you should have added some. Interviews were way to dark and there is no excuse for not lighting an interview unless it is breaking news. But overall a very nice piece
Positives: The sound bites worked well to tell the story of the play. The clap sound effect worked well with the transition from the voice over copy.
Improvements: Graphic look should be consistent throughout a piece - in this case we had different fonts and colors for lower third chryon identification of individuals providing soundbites. The opening background behind the reporter was drab - also - the mix of the music is competing too much against the opening set-up provided by the reporter. The music should have been faded out at the end - it's an abrupt cut-off and also it went way too long after the video was complete.
