Entry Description

Story of a soldier coming home from a war and celebrating with her family.

Judge 1

Positives: Good concept for a story. The opening shot (time lapse) is really nice.

Improvements: There is too much camera movement. Shots are sort of flying around and at times could have better composition. Sometimes the movement appears shaky verses intentional. Some transitions could use a dissolve to soften the movement. Think about adding a layer to the story, perhaps the woman soldier's viewpoint. By adding another layer, you could eliminate a lot of the "driving" footage, which although is scenic, is somewhat redundant.

Judge 2

Positives: Nice time lapse shot at the beginning. Good country feel throughout - nice choice for location/props. Liked the effect used at 2:31. Good video and audio sync throughout. Good choice for talent/singer.

Improvements: Would like to see a wider variety of footage used throughout. For example, more close-ups of singer, boots, hands on pick-up truck bed, etc. Quicker cuts to a wider variety of footage would've helped speed up the pace to fit the song. Wish story of soldier arriving home started closer to the beginning of the video. Her story wasn't introduced until the middle of the song. Would like to see a key at the beginning and end of the song to give credit.

Judge 3

Positives: Great story. The visuals of trees and farms while driving were beautiful and also made nice transitions. Camera movements/arcs were nice.

Improvements: The pacing didn't go great with the music. While the shots of the farms and land were great, it didn't really match the rest of the piece (colors/lighting). Close-ups would really enhance this video, especially of the singer.
