Entry Description

A compilation of my best camera work from the past year all compiled to answer the question "What is Adventure?"

Judge 1

Positives: Excellent work. Mainly your choice of moment and composition to work with editing - slow motion.

Improvements: All action. Need more narrative styled items for reel too - ie. dramatic lighting for kitchen table confrontation, living room parental talk with only the tv lighting the room, etc. Your reel is more of a travel log done exceptionally well.

Positives: This piece shows us what adventure is – with quite a bit of visual variety. Everything from long-exposure to high-speed cinematography shows that this filmmaker experiments and puts in serious effort to test what can be done with the equipment he has. Particularly loved the black and white hard-lighting on the subject taking notes, and the interesting perspective on a band-member with the GoPro-esque setup mounted on the trombone. The editing for the piece effectively used aspirational music to drive us through a nicely flowing narrative of adventure.

Improvements: Would really love to see a bit more LIGHTING variety. The light in each of the pieces worked well, but I'd like to see the filmmaker display more of his talents in a scenario where he has to build character and tone from scratch, with lighting – instead of available light.
