After the Bell is a monthly show shot at BATV Studios, by the BHS Video Club. This is the beginning section of After the Bell; Season 2, Episode 4. Highlights Mr. BHS, and the Batavia High School Wrestling Team.
Positives: Very impressive for a high school talk show. LOVE the opening graphic & music. Ana has an excellent on camera delivery. Natural, conversational. Could really see her on the red carpet at celeb events in LA. Mr. BHS field shoot - well prepared and thoughtful questions, Ana. Liked the male/female combo between Jack & Ana. Jack read prompter very well - great delivery. Camera shots were excellent. LOVED the broll chosen during the Mr. BHS interview.
Improvements: Pick up the energy during in studio interviews. Rev up your guests -- pump them up for the interview. The wrestling interview was pretty dry. Try to make the talk show more conversational with guests ...really listen to your guests and ask follow-up questions. Next time, explain what Mr. BHS is ... for those who don't go to your high school, I assumed it was some sort of a talent show...but would have liked a set-up of what the contest was at your high school. Lighting at Mr. BHS contest was not good - check shot before you start filming. This is a minor note - but always wear bright solid colors on camera!
Positives: Good, upbeat, and concise intro graphic. I found the hosts' information clear and informative. The pacing between the two of them was good, and I liked the concise introduction of the stories coming up in the show.
Improvements: I didn't like the audio in your studio. I'm not an audio expert, but I found the way the room tone dropped all the way out between every spoken word to be distracting and unnatural. Solid jobs from your hosts, but I'd encourage them to continue working on confidence and simply getting comfortable in front of the camera. They do a decent job of listening and responding authentically, but there's still some stiffness that could be improved. It's a minor thing, but I wanted more of a transition between Mr. BHS and the wrestling team interview. Even some sort of simple wrap up line from one of your hosts back in the studio would have helped. Lastly, I wonder if the interview of Mr. BHS could have been staged differently so that he and the host weren't so backlit.
Positives: Camera work was very professional in the studio. Large scope project and did a good job.
Improvements: Hard to cover interview with that many guests. Some shots needed to be tighter and cover guests better. Audio on remote is too loud and distorted.
