Entry Description

Plot: In this short film, a young hunter is searching for game, but cannot find any. Behind the Scenes: After creating a very descriptive script, we drove out to the nearest woods to film over the weekend. For the costume, my brother and I gathered brown pieces of clothing and makeup to build up a solid character. I used a camera stabilizer to enhance the flow of the film. I used mostly natural light, but adjusted the shutter speed, ISO, and aperture before shooting. I also added cinematic filters in post-production. Finally, I recorded sound effects such as footsteps and twigs breaking. The film was mainly inspired by the recent film "The Revenant," nominated for 12 academy awards.

Positives: I'm not watching any of these videos with sound and yours was the first that did a great job telling a story without needing the audio. You did a good job with keeping things in focus even while moving.

Improvements: The color plated was a bit bland and detail in the dark's where being lost due to the snow. The snow is too bright for the technology you are likely working with so it is unavoidable unless what is being filmed is changed. Try to be aware of the limitations and adjust the production to allow your skills to shine more such that technically you are not limited.

Judge 2

Positives: Good use of camera movement. Nice subjective views. "Cold" lighting works with mood. Nice overall mood and feel of the piece.

Improvements: Some shots were too simplistic for what you were trying to do. The shots needed to build with your action.
