Comedic Narrative

Entry Description

A pseudo-documentary comedy about friendship and bowling. A young man remembers his bygone friendships, and the common interest that tied them all together. Nostalgic, but odd, stories ensue.

Positives: - Amazing use of sound design with natural sounds and music alike. - Great use of "run and gun" film making. This was a stylistic choice that paid off well and stayed consistent through out. Great job exploring multiple angles and showing a variety in shots. Everything from the one take bowling alley walk through to the tight shots of the bowling ball was visually pleasing to the eye.

Improvements: - The story was easy to follow, but too many of the friends met similar fates of leaving or disappearing. Would have liked to have seen more variety in each of their stories. - While fun, some of the scenes went a little long and did not add to the story. Visually, there was a great connection between the friends and their favorite hangout spot, but this was sometimes lost in the dialogue. Don't be afraid to cut down your material for the sake of the entire piece.

Positives: The piece looks and feels like a documentary. The long holds on shots, the car interview, even the scene where the lead is ordering a burger felt very docu-series. The cinematography was good. The car shot wasn't too shaky and stayed in frame, the beautiful variety of shots of the bowling alley, and the great tracking shot at the end. Good job.

Improvements: I wanted to see more of the relationships between the friends. The narration gave me a good idea who these people were to the main character, but I wanted to see them interact. I wanted to see them bowl more, laugh, or even hear more from the other friends. That's what this piece is missing. You told me a lot, but didn't show me a lot.
