Advanced TV - Sitcom

Entry Description

As a class we produce a sitcom once per semester. We write the script, revise the script, film and edit. The sitcom is based loosely on the personalities of the students in our program and is a really fun collaborative project. Most shoots we use 2 DSLR cameras and record audio and sync it later.

Positives: Excellent camera work and editing! Tremendous job of getting wide and tight shots, cut aways, movement. Lighting is great, sound is great. It was seamless. Great job! Great comedy performance and writing - very funny and loved that everyone had an important role. Talented group and a high quality piece. Very impressive!

Improvements: The second scene at 2:30 (running time) - it's not as clear what's happening in this scene as it could've been. A line at the beginning of the scene would've done the trick. This same scene was also very quiet and difficult to hear. Even though it's intended to be a "quiet" scene, the audio should've been brought up a touch to make it more audible.

Positives: Good job introducing the characters quickly and establishing distinct personalities. Ditto for introducing the conflict and setting the story in motion. Pacing was engagingly brisk with the possible exception of the opening few seconds. Lighting was solid throughout, good smooth camera movement, solid composition, and generally a nice job of avoiding your reflection in the windows in the back of the class.

Improvements: Sound was solid overall, but the occasional screams get tedious quickly and could have been brought down a tad in post. Good commitment from your actors, but I'd suggest dialing down the silliness and the overreactions a fraction. You don't want the audience feeling like they're on the outside of an inside joke, and you come close to that is a spot or two.

Positives: Staging good with camera movement, especially opening shot. Very nice. Very professional audio.

Improvements: Some shots were too static. Plot was thin.
