Kyle Gilson follows some students from Crown Point High School to Gary, Indiana to examine the Habitat For Humanity program for Northwest Indiana. CPHS is starting a new club this year to work on some of the Habitat for Humanity programs.
Positives: Very nice narration and thoughtful stand up close. Nicely written. The interviews with the Habitat volunteer and director help move the story along.
Improvements: The recipient of the home could have been better introduced, not simply by the super. You clearly included compelling elements of her story, but you could have presented them a bit better. Judging from the writing throughout the piece you clearly have the talent to do so. We need to hear the sounds of the construction more through nat sound breaks to draw us in even more.
Positives: Nice job with the interviews. I love that you explained what you were doing upfront. Interviewed a volunteer and a recipient as well as a coordinator. I love that you delved into the facts as well as the heartstrings. Great job with the sound on the interviews
Improvements: At the end, your sign off could have been a little more upbeat while delivering the same message-- but I do like the direction you were going! nice job with the broll- I would have like a few more shots of workers engaging in the build (laughing smiling, tighter shots)-- but I loved the moving shot of the already built community!
