Entry Description

The trailer for BHS-TV's halloween special, The B-Squad. Originally a ten minute short film, we created a trailer that premiered on our news broadcast to promote the movie. The film itself was aired on the Friday before Halloween. We employed the use of special effects to craft a team of super heroes, who were called on to defend their town from a resurrected villain. An original script. Directed by Jack Longo.

Judge 1

Positives: "S-Squad" really succeeds from a comedic standpoint – particularly the angelic music cue punctuated with a hilarious Scottish accent. The piece also plays with VFX and editing in an interesting way, showcasing the powers of the squad.

Improvements: The most glaring improvement that could be made would be the addition of a stronger ending. Before 'Jack' pages the school over the PA system, a 'rise' sound effect could be inserted to really push the tension of the situation – these characters are hearing their enemy speak, and the cut to black after he says 'Jack here' seems a little to sudden, and too hopeful. There needs to be more of a build to that moment. Overall, peppering in some strong sound effects to push the visual effects could help the piece evolve. Adding some depth and developing your lighting could also help distinguish antagonists from protagonists, and improve the ton of the trailer as a whole.
