A documentary showcasing an enlightening program provided by District 218 to help B.U.I.L.D. kids have business skills. With commentary by the students and how it impacted their lives for the better.
Positives: Nice work! You’ve done a good job of telling the story of this incredibly worthwhile organization in an interesting way. You’ve used classic techniques to give us a clear sense of the meaningfulness that this program has on its participants… and we also get a nice appreciation of the step-by-step process of how they do the shirts. A very fun piece!
Improvements: I think your b-roll shooting is mostly very good (especially in the T-shirt shop), but your interview shooting needs just a bit of work in terms of composition (try to not center the interview subject— look up “rule of thirds” for interview techniques…(https://www.candidio.com/blog/how-to-apply-the-rule-of-thirds-to-your-interviews). I’m also not quite sure about the off-axis interview shots really work (where the subjects are in profile). I’d just stick to classic framing, following the rule of thirds. Some of the audio also need some work. There is background hiss over some of the interviews… and much of this can be fixed with some audio EQ work to eliminate that high frequency. In general, you’ve done a nice job editing much of this piece, but there are a few rough edits and transitions that take us out of the experience from time to time. It just needs a bit of refining. Nice job.
Positives: Great job on highlighting a program in the area that is doing some good. Subjects & soundbites were solid.
Improvements: Camera shots could have been tighter and more creative. Try to position subjects so there is depth in the shot - rather than up against a wall.
