Entry Description

What started as another English Department meeting finished as an inspired Adele video.

Positives: the portraits of the singers singing directly at the camera were very emotional and you did a good job with a serious subject and topic. I thought as stand alone images, the medium shots of the at 44, 49, and 52, and 58 seconds were amazing. I would like to see you go down this path with future projects. The shots with the black background were dope and very well lit.

Improvements: I like the idea of making a silly video, keep in mind that if the viewer like me doesn't know who the teachers are and what their personalities are like, it might not be as inherently as funny as you would having already known the teachers. Basically, there is no character development. I thought the script could have been better during the meeting... I really like the concept and idea, but you shouldn't have to rely on text to the story.

Positives: Obviously a lot of effort in the shoot and recruiting subjects for your video. The result was a very entertaining video, although I'm not sure a really saw the connection from the meeting to the song, but because it was well done, I didn't care too much! Your treatments between the meeting scenes and the music video scenes were excellent.

Improvements: I think my biggest criticism of your editing is perhaps the easiest to fix. Don't discount the importance of your copy slates. You never want to cram your copy into the screen. Early in your video, there was a line of copy that stretched from the far left edge to the far right edge of the screen. Don't be afraid to break a line to make it easier to read and keep those lines as equal as possible. Don't orphan a single word for the sake of splitting. Another related point were your credits at the end. Split the list in two columns and use the screen space you have, or scroll the names in a larger font. It's easy to just throw copy in your piece, but spending a bit of time on it will improve the quality of your video.
