Entry Description

This 7 minute horror flick takes a look at a "haunted" flash drive and the aftermath it causes six students just trying to have a good time!

Positives: The shooting style and cutting between different moments did a great job of selling the idea of it all being through the view of a camcorder. The use of black and white with the harsher lighting and shadows did a great job of quickly changing the mood of the piece. It helped add suspense and was a great contrast to how the film began.

Improvements: Adding some film grain or fuzziness to the camcorder footage would've been super helpful in selling the realism of the entire feel of the film. The first time we see a shot that's not using the camcorder could have been established better. Since every frame we've seen so far has had the camcorder "REC" in the corner, the first time we don't see it I assumed it was a mistake. Also, since this happens so late in the film, I had assumed up until this point that we were never going to see reality rather than the camcorder.

Positives: The first person camera work is effective in conveying the fear the characters are experiencing to the viewer. It is very reminiscent of the Blair Witch Project. The escalation of the murders is effective in driving the story and tension forward.

Improvements: The necessity of the switch from color to black and white is unclear from a narrative perspective. The element of the flash drive as an important prop is not well articulated in the larger horror narrative. The same story could have easily been told with any other prop or without a prop at all. Perhaps the flash drive could have been better woven into the story.

Positives: I like the overall concept of the story. I think that it is creative to use the idea of 1st person shooting. Overall there are a lot of creative parts to this story.

Improvements: I wish the audio was clearer, the start has an echo to it. While the 1st person is creative it becomes a little distracting because it is so shaky. It also limits the head room on the characters. As for the characters there might too many because it is tough to get connected to them.
