Improvements: There are clearly a lot of shots taken from the perspective of a car--it get's repetitive and restricts you as a cinematographer. I would like to see much more shot variety.
  • 3/6 10:00 am - very shaky shots, lacking variety but Super cool shots from high above downtown
  • 3/3 2:59 pm - My favorite shots here were the once at :31 and your final shot. For the first shot, I appreciate deep Z space that extends down MI Ave. Couple that with the guiding lines created by the buildings and the trees, along with the blue-hour of the day and the lights from the christmas lights, traffic signals and cars, there are several eye catching elements here. The final shot with its jagged geometry, the hour of the day, and the deeply contrasted blue of the lake against the city make this image pop. A strong concluding shot there. The aspect most distracting about this work is that it is unsteady. The shake makes enjoying the scene difficult, because my eyes must constantly re-adjust for the changing frame. While I am not against having a moving shot, I feel that using stabilization of some sort is important, not for just the reason above, but also because it would make the reel feel more planned and professional, rather than created from some chance footage found on a trip to the city.
  • 2/28 4:38 pm - Nice variety of perspectives around the city, but please use a tripod going forward. The one steady shot in traffic was refreshing to see. Many of the shots didn't guide the viewer's eye to anything in particular. Driving shots are really hard to use well, it's worth getting out of the car to be more intentional about what you are capturing.
