  • 3/27 9:28 pm - Long pause from the announcers during the beginning of the clip in the timeout. Wide shot of the field should have been tighter during the snap. Natural sound from stadium is quiet. Play-by-play is solid, color guy doesn't provide much.
  • 3/7 10:52 am - For the first :26 of the clip, there is no audio - or what little natural audio there is is very difficult to hear. For future games, I would suggest having a microphone placed outside in order to pick up the ambient sound from the field. It is so crucial - especially when the announcers are not saying anything. In a game such as this one, that natural audio is so crucial to setting the mood and tone of the event. While the announcers did a decent job telling the story, some of the directing was a little slow. For example, after the incomplete pass, the shot changed to the wide shot at :01:00. It wasn’t until :01:23 when that shot changed to the huddle on the field. This could have been because a camera didn’t have their shot set, but that’s a very long time to be sitting on one shot, especially when there’s no action on the field. A tight shot of the coach sending in the play or go to the huddle on the field earlier would have been a better call. Remember that for the entire game, the director’s responsibility is to tell a story - even when there isn’t any action going on on the field, there’s still a story to be told - whether it’s on the sidelines, in a huddle, etc. The camera shots tell the viewer who isn’t in the stadium, the story of the game.
