  • 4/14 2:26 pm - Positives: You have a lot of footage! Some of the night shots have gorgeous color with the use of the natural night lights. Improvements: I found the editing pace to be quite distracting for this piece--we don't have time to "take in" any of the shots because of the abrupt editing. There's a lot of wide shots--could have benefitted from more shot variety.
  • 3/3 3:07 pm - I love the sheer abundance of images in this as they provide lots of varied textures that reveal the commotion of the celebration of the day and the setting which it took place. So from a conceptual standpoint, that’s a really neat avenue for exploration. And, as a travelogue of the experience, I enjoyed watching it. As a reel, however, that must show exemplary cinematography from shot to shot, this falls short of its task. Some compositions are dull. :06, :56, 1:00 for instance don’t provide strong focal elements. All of the shots are shaky. And while I get that, because you were likely on a school trip, and carrying around a stabilizer, tripod, or slider would have been impractical or impossible, the nice compositions you were able to line up were disserviced, because my eyes needed to constantly re-adjust to enjoy them. All in all, while there are some great moments in here, it doesn’t represent a dynamic range of creative approaches present in exceptional reels.
  • 2/28 5:06 pm - Great idea to capture a trip to the Inauguration, but the lack of coherent visual storytelling is troubling. We as the audience see a lot of standing around, but rarely from the student's perspective, but rather as a group herded along. The tighter shots felt like they were added to hit beats instead of showing your range of composition and use of light.
