Entry Description

A couple wants to watch a movie, but is at a loss for what snack they want to eat. Luckily, Pop Secret brand popcorn is there to save the day and their date!

  • 3/6 8:30 pm - I like this commercial and the tag line for it. I think that the shots are clear and it is easy to follow. I really like how the light comes on when he gets the idea, nice touch. I would watch for too many dialogue screens because they can take away from the commercial. If the shots are clear and the acting is clear people will understand what is going on without them. Overall very good job.
  • 3/5 11:15 am - I thought this was a novel idea, I thought you captured the silent film era well between the effects, graphics, music, and pace it was edited at. The film projector in the background was a nice touch. However at the end I felt like I was reading the message twice, once on their lips and then again with the text. Other than that I thought you did a great job with it. I liked it
Judge 1

Positives: 1. Great storytelling - easy to understand and follow 2. Nice use of editing & visuals to offer sound. Liked that there was no VO only slides with words

Improvements: 1. Camera angels - would have been nice to see an establishing shot before the two characters sit down in the living room 2. After the popcorn is picked up and the characters are sitting on the couch - the shot is out of focus.

Positives: Very cute concept. Shot well. The Black and White treatment is of course on target. The designed "silent movie" screens were well put together, good choice of font. Music choice was great as well. Love the "lightbulb" moment...make it more prominent because it's really funny!

Improvements: Gotta add that 16mm film jitter on this, as well as a film filter, to fully give the impression you're going for. Back-time your music so that it ends as the spot ends. It gives an energetic finality to the commercial that way It's a funny continuity thing so I think it works...throwing the bag in a bowl into the microwave, then opening the microwave and the bowl is full and bag is gone. Just something to consider, but I think it works in this case. Ends a bit quickly. Could've done something more fun with the logo, and maybe a sub-title like "It'll be our little secret" or something like that...
