  • 3/27 9:42 pm - Play-by-play is terrific! Follows the action and gets excited when appropriate. Camera coverage is very good as well especially in a difficult TV sport like Hockey. Well done!
  • 3/7 10:53 am - Hockey is not an easy sport to televise, but this crew did a fantastic job. The cut-aways to the tight shots were at very appropriate times and I didn’t feel that I missed any of the action when the director went to those shots. The wide shot camera kept the puck in play the entire time. The announcer did a great job and showed enthusiasm for the game, even when the other team scored. Also did a great job calling the game - could tell homework had been done to learn the names of the players on both teams. Very nice job!

Positives: The graphics bar was very nice game cam operation was very good.

Improvements: need mics placed closer to ice for better ambience. a second announcer to differentiate color to play-by-play would create better story camera(s) placed on the glass for varying angles

Judge 2

Positives: Excellent lower third / score box on screen. Very easy to read.

Improvements: I know hockey is a challenge when it comes to lighting, but this was too dark and the white balance seemed heavy on the blue. A bit too much dead air in the announcing.

Positives: Hockey is a very tough sport to cover, especially without replay, so the overall broadcast was done very well with what they were working with. I thought the play-by-play talent did a good job having to carry the broadcast. He knew the sport, did not try to over-call the game, and did well with emotion at key points.

Improvements: I think most of the switches were done well, but there were a few times where the game was moving too fast to switch. There may have been nowhere else to go, but I would've stayed on the celebration a little longer after the goal as the main camera did not give you anything. There were times when the talent needed to say a bit more during the dead periods around face-offs. You can let the action breathe, but there is definitely room for anecdotal stories, stats, or recaps when the puck is not in play.
