Entry Description

This documentary shows how students at East Aurora High School have school spirit and demonstrate motivation despite the majority of the students being in poverty. The students are such polite people and respect their peers and teachers. Hopefully the audience can see how these students strive to make better decisions.

  • 4/28 5:21 am - Poor audio on interview of principal, use tripod for broll, don’t reuse broll, poorly framed interviews, lower thirds are called that for a reason – not upper thirds, dropped frame around 2:20, powerful message, good variety of broll, song quits at 3:50 to then reappear later
  • 4/27 8:26 pm - Overall, felt this piece was something that would be akin to a "Welcome to East Aurora!" introductory video that would be on the home page of the school's web site - not an intimate or emotional documentary. And when the majority of your competitors ARE emotional in nature, it makes it tough to battle for a top-three spot. Needed tripod for many shots. The old rule is, "If IT doesn't move, then the camera shouldn't move."
  • 4/26 5:22 pm - Some good shots in halls, at game and in the interviews, but a few were shaky. Music was appropriate to the story. Construction shots worked well. Having classroom shots would have helped to keep from relying too much on the hallway and game footage. It can be tough to balance the background music with the voices, but this copy seemed to mute the music too much in most cases. Something about academic progress or accomplishments would help to balance the physical improvements happening at the school and fill out the story line.
