  • 4/24 11:07 am - Great story idea and information. However, your footage is a bit distracting to the overall message. A rule of thumb for Pan Shots is to pan across the image for 7 seconds, not including the start and ending movement (which is usually shakier). Being conscious of your filming goals and getting a variety of shots will allow you to edit with more ease rather than having to utilize footage that might be shaky or framed awkwardly. With that said, you have some great B-Roll here, though I like to use a Rule of 3 when it comes to both Interviews and B-Roll; get three interviews, get three different examples of the subject at hand (packing, working together, the boxes being loaded to a car, etc.)
  • 3/5 1:18 pm - Interesting story. Graphic at beginning should be up a lot longer. I could not read it. Too much camera movement. Watch people acting goofy in the background. This is a news piece, so you really should not have music in the entire piece. Adding the snowflakes falling takes away the credibility of the piece. This is just one long interview with b-roll. Could have added a reporter that summarizes some of what she says and made this a stronger piece.
  • 2/27 11:34 am - I am interested in this story, however, it is mostly just one long interview covered with what looks like phone video footage. I believe there was enough here to make a pretty good news package. There were lots of pan shots (not so much wide, medium, tight sequences).

Positives: - The interview with the teacher works well throughout the story. - Great map graphic!!!

Improvements: - Always be mindful of tone. A different choice of music would be more appropriate under the images of children who are suffering. The upbeat Christmas music works much better under images of students volunteering. - The opening shot of any package is very important. I would suggest using something other than the teacher sound bite to begin the piece. The pictures of the children would be a powerful opening.

Positives: nice job with maps! way to be creative liked that you took a chance with graphics nice job with the feel of the piece. your end was strong.

Improvements: take your time with setting up your shot to make sure it's in focus and well lit. The music is a bit distracting over the interviews
