The Mane is a once per month program produced by nine second year students. This episode showcases Metea Valley's fine arts students, a movie review of Zootopia, appropriate Halloween costumes, and burgeoning student entrepreneurship.

- 3/23 11:05 am - Strong opening, anchor is a little “stiff” standing there- not much body language / Art story is “fluffy”- no real storyline, what is the central question? Art critic is very stiff, uncomfortable on camera, music levels are little hot, distracting / “commercial” is greatest element in show so far / Halloween story is simple man on street, not very illuminating, needs more varying camera angles / Student entrepreneur story- “meatiest”; solid production values- should have led with this story to hook viewers / Good shooting all around- narrative arc needed in stories
- 2/27 2:13 pm - Solid intro w/dynamic transitions; anchor talent is well-lit and has a natural yet authoritative presence on camera. Audio was solid throughout as was editing (appropriate cuts and transitions). Movie review talent was a little "stiff" on camera, but voice over for movie review was good; good content. Nice touch with the volleyball commercial, was a good break from the "news" and had a nice fun feel to it. Over all this program was shot well and employed solid production fundamentals throughout-- nice job!

Positives: Good use of shots in the opening montage. I like the Halloween costume piece - Good job with interviews...Just make sure you set your shot the right way. The host was almost always profile with a stick straight arm. Get closer to your subject and cheat towards camera. Great job with the Phi Concept - very interesting. Good use of shots.
Improvements: I like that your hosts use lav mics, but they need to not just stand with hands by their sides...there needs to be some movement or dimension. Prep your interview subjects to have more energy. I liked the chair by the fire for the movie review - but I think you need more energy there...I couldn't tell if it was a joke...so it needs to go one way or the other. I would have started out the movie review with a clip from the movie - with full sound. The music dropped out too quickly when you transitioned out of the movie review.

Positives: I really enjoyed your newscast! You had some fun stories, great pacing and everything was produced very nicely.
Improvements: Just some minor things: I thought the piece about the student entrepreneurs was really interesting. I would've included where the clothing is sold and I was curious how the students were using the profits I also would've played it hire in the newscast. During the zootopia piece I would've used some nat sound from the movie
