Entry Description

The original concept for this video was a noir short film in the modern day. This evolved into a detective case pursued overly dramatic high school kid. The filming took around a week, and in order to make the 5 minute limit we had to cut out several finished scenes. Overall, we're very proud of the finished result.

• 4/28 1:03 pm - This is a fun piece! Parodies can be tricky, but managed to incorporate a number of film noir trappings. You must have enjoyed creating this. The cinematography is above average, with some of the black and white shots having a striking appearance. You tell a coherent story with a creative twist at the end. In the future, you will want to work on finding more economical ways of advancing your story's plot. As I mentioned earlier, a parody such as this has its challenges. In this case, you had moments when comedic elements infringed upon your dramatic narrative.

Judge 1

Positives: The lighting in this was really well done. The shadows were spot on. I like the film noir aspect of the movie, and the setup of the story. I like sound you have in the school, and the sound of the student being backed into the lockers.

Improvements: I would have moved over the person in halls when they were talking, don't just show their back while they talk. I might try to drop a couple of more hints as to what is going on. Watch your audio to make sure it matches.

Positives: Nice musical choices…though perhaps not needed as constantly; very strong work emulating noir visual thematics (good job working with black and white and lighting)

Improvements: Could do without car driving as it slowed down visual interest (liked intersplice of “murder” moment however); at times the camera shakes a bit so work to control fluidity
