  • 3/27 9:27 pm - Technically pretty smooth and terrific job by the play-by-play announcer. Color guy could have added something during the time out but play-by-play guy was on top of it. Didn't like the switching to camera underneath the basket during the Glenbard possession, hard to see the court when that camera is taken but otherwise very strong broadcast.
  • 3/7 10:51 am - First, I was wishing I could have watched the end of that game - looks like it was a good one! The camera work was good. There was only one time we lost the ball - right in the beginning, it went into the corner of the court and that wasn’t seen on the wide shot. Couldn’t see the player until the director switched to the under-the-basket camera that had the player taking the 3-point shot. Nice job by the director following the “hero” player after each play. Overall, I felt the director told a good story with their camera shots. At times, the pacing of the announcer troubled me. There were long pauses in the middle of some of his sentences. Would have liked to have heard more from the color commentator (Jake) - heard very little from him. Any background information on these players and their history of fouling out in a game? Has the team had foul trouble like this before? The announcing was definitely dominated by the play-by-play announcer.

Positives: good use of hand held for hero shots very nice graphics/score bar, though including the clock would enhance

Improvements: utilize hand held for freethrows more variety of shots during time out. better coordination between play-by-play and color announcer

Judge 2

Positives: Good lower third / score graphic. Nice and easy to read. Nice cut away to the crowd when there wasn't any game action.

Improvements: Audio was a bit too much and peaked right out of the gate in this clip. A few panic moves with the camera. Using a table top mic stand is a must or a clip on. I can hear the mic being handled. Multiple times the video was blurry.

Positives: I liked that the Director did not get nervous when a 3-pointer went up while on the low camera. Good patience to ride it out and let the shot go through before going back out to the game camera. Camera placement was done well, as there were more available than a typical HS production. Well done. Obviously replay would have been nice with the different looks. Good cutaways used during the timeout.

Improvements: Audio was over-modulated during key moments/excitement, which can be tricky to do. Anticipating the big play is key. A common mistake is trying to switch to a different camera from the corner. Most of the time it is more jarring for the viewer to be switched to something quick, rather than just keep it on the game camera even if you are unable to see 100% of the shot. After the shot you can THEN switch to the hero shot up the court. The talent needed to do a better job of working together. The color analyst did not try and get in when he needed to, but when he did both of them kind of talked over each other. There were times that they referred to "Jake", but then kept talking to not let Jake in.
