  • 3/13 11:27 am - This story was perfect for a multi-camera shoot-- very well-done!
  • 3/13 11:26 am - Agreed--great lighting! Nice soft touch using the black backgroundwith b-roll laid in the background semi-transparently; at :35 the image crosses behind the main subject--a change of camera angle off-center to right would have dealt with that.
  • 3/12 11:51 am - Love the lighting of the interview.
  • 3/12 10:02 am - This is a nice piece, for sure. I like the archival footage that plays behind Dr. Shellard as he recalls the memories, but it seems to overlap over his video track... I think it would be better behind him as to not take away from his place in the piece. The angles are good, it seemed like there were some quick cuts; I think to anything retrospective (a 27 year career) maybe slow the cuts down a bit? It might just be that I'm seeing a portion of a longer piece and that's why it doesn't seem to fit? Audio is solid; the lighting fits really well and I like the emotion that is conveyed. Nicely done!
  • 2/28 9:24 am - Great job with the lighting and multiple angles. I am not sure if the pause before Dr. Shellard talks works or not. The footage in the background is great and might work even better if the subject was not centered in the screen. For example at 47 seconds looks great but I am not sure if the video overlapping the interview works or if it would be better behind the subject. Overall, very well done.

Positives: Editing - Using look room for B-roll is a bit of style that very much works for for the 'memories' theme. Lighting - The side lighting works well for this sort of feel, particularly with the music. - The low angle backlight defines while allowing the hair to drop off. Very well done. -Camera - The angle shot is very well framed.

Improvements: Editing - A bit loose when the subject sits silent for a bit on camera before talking to open the piece. - I know the takes force the hand in when the two angles are cut, but the frequency is too great for the similarity in angles. Camera - Square medium shot: Color temperature much cooler than the angle shoot. Head room could be cut down. - Subjects eye line falls between the two angles, Editing, mask the subject or the b-roll. The memories can be translucent, but the subject should be solid. Unless this was a stylistic choice, in which case cool, but it feels like a concession.

Positives: interview bites cut nicely. interview well lit. good amount of information not excessive.

Improvements: more variety of opaque footage

Judge 3

Positives: Nice message! Nice use of camera angles Good music track choice Good job of lighting for effect, maybe a tad bit dramatic.

Improvements: Could have color corrected one of the cameras to match the other. One is a little blue. Not a huge fan of the b-roll over Dr. Shellard. Should either go full frame with the video or not at all.
