After a season of hard work, the Mundelein High School boys cross country team qualified for the state meet for the first time in school history. This news story is filmed on location at the state meet in Peoria, and reports portions of the team’s first trip down to state.

However, while you have the technicalities down; well-framed shots, good B-Roll, nice sound for your interviews and great natural sound, the story falls short a little bit, partly because it’s under a minute and partly because there usually is more to a story about a team; what did they have to improve on? What are their chances at state? Who are the kids to watch at State and can we get interviews with them? What about the coaches? What about the students, what does “going to state” do for the moral of the school? Keep digging when covering a story and you’ll get a lot more to work with. Overall, though, you definitely have the fundamentals down well and I’m confident with your skills that you will continue to create and produce some amazing work.
