  • 4/19 9:52 am - Great use of color to make your composition and lighting really pop- great blend of natural settings with the skate tricks to show your imagination reaches beyond just one area, which is typically a challenge for high school students. Great use of the frame, providing different perspectives for the viewer instead of locking in one focal point in each shot.
  • 3/31 3:48 pm - Camera: -Displayed a diverse range of compositions -You have a lot of static shots, which are nice, but when you do move the camera it is shaky--use some sort of stabilization for moving shots whether that be a shoulder mount OR resting the camera strap tight across the back of your neck and holding the camera as far as you can out in front of you-- this will allow camera movement to be smooth. Lighting: -Opening shots are very pretty, it looks like you were filming around the "golden hour" which is always a good idea Editing: -The pace of the reel is a little slow--some of the shots hold a little too long. This maybe could be helped by a different song that builds a little bit more than this one does. -I think this reel would benefit from being cut down 30 seconds--you have some really nice shots here but you also have some shots that do not have much impact, like the person picking up luggage. Select your BEST shots and take out the others.

Positives: Great camera work. Great editing and use of effects.

Improvements: Overuse of shallow depth of field.

Judge 2

Positives: -You did some nice work with your color grading. Some shots were really enhanced by having a great dynamic color tone. -Nice sunrise drone work along the beach there. Early bird gets the worm. And if you plan to work in this industry, get used to waking up before the sun rises! But that shows me, as someone who's watching your reel, that you're dedicated to getting the shot that you want - not just the shot that's there.

Improvements: -Be careful how far you push some of your color grading, though. There were a few shots where you pushed it a little too far and the subtlety of the color got crushed. Sometimes that's a good thing, but usually you want to retain those details. -You have a lot of stuff on here that's from sunset, which is cool - but I think you should try to get some more interior scenes on here. People want to see that you know how to control light. Set up some stuff with your friends. Use household lamps to create set. You don't need expensive movie lights - just lightbulbs will be fine! Experiment with types of light: fluorescent, tungsten, hard, soft, etc.

Positives: You certainly had some very nice shots ranging from great sunsets to narrow depth of field shots with some action thrown in there. You seemed to keep most of the video on beat with the music timing you cuts to coordinate with beats.

Improvements: I think there were a lot of great shot but some of the shots seemed to be randomly put into the video. Overall nice job.
