Entry Description

It's obvious that it is a very delicate balance of how politics is handled at our high school. Teachers talk with restraint and it is clear that many are uneasy having these discussions with students. We wanted to see how teens viewed this uneasiness and how they could be opinionated with purpose.

  • 4/25 9:53 am - Opening footage not credited. Well written voice-overs, story flows smoothly. Varying range in audio with use of different mics. Framing on Tracy is all wrong in composition and talking space. Poor framing on Michelle.
  • 3/9 9:44 pm - The 1st couple interviews needed something besides a plan wall in the back ground. B-roll was nice, framing was good. The last few interviews had a nice background, matching the content. Nice job!
  • 3/2 10:13 am - Good use of b-roll from other networks a citing it; framing of interviews is good; integration if sound bites done well; Some of the original b-roll is uninteresting and boring; variety of sources included; video matches reporter track - nice job. Interviews at end not framed properly - too much head room.

Positives: Very well written script. Very good interviews and followed a nice clear outline. Good work on camera, lighting and sound. Nice work.

Improvements: A few of the lighting scenes were a bit inconsistent.

Positives: Engaging topic that is clearly stated at the beginning to immediately connect to the audience. Great job of mix of perspectives and presented multiple view points. Great job with a call to action at the end of your piece. very powerful way to share different viewpoints and then a way for your viewer to take action after watching.

Improvements: Great job at your interviews- there were a couple that maybe you could have found a more engaging background- but overall great job.

Positives: Nice montage off the top - I'm not usually a fan of music under but you did a nice job with using and then getting out nicely. Good sound -- was nice to hear from students and teachers and to get opposing views.

Improvements: Pictures of signs hard to read and stagnant – would have done a push in. Even better would have been some hall shots of students walking – don’t need to show faces but at least see their backs or from a distance. Would like to see shots of open forum meeting when you first introduce. Framing your interviews -- I would shoot a bit tighter and for the student talking about the forum I would have tried to find a more interesting background -- maybe at a forum meeting? He could be speaking to you and in the background we'd see the group gathered.
