The Blackout game has been a tradition for 10 years now, and the fan section lovingly known as "The Weirdos" has supported the team year after year. With nearly 3,000 people in attendance, this excerpt shows why this BLACKOUT was one of the closest games in a decade. A buzzer beater tied the game and pushed it into overtime.

Positives: This broadcast sample was, for the most part, very clean and professional. Aside from actually capturing the game action, the audio management is likely the most difficult aspect of this work. Even with the crowd and announcers shouting, the audio was level with no obvious signs of peaking. This was done while still maintaining some of the more detailed sounds such as the ent itself.
Improvements: Easier said than done, cutting to cameras that are not "wildly" scanning the crowd or the court is difficult. With proper communication in the moment, camera operators should be instructed to conduct slow crowd pans. This is something that can be discussed in the pregame in the event of an exciting finish. The fast pans feel like a mistake and take away from the quality of the broadcast.
Positives: Terrific moment captured by sound and video. Lucked into that but didn't get in the way. Blend of natural/announcer sound and video was well done.
Improvements: More backstory. I know there is txt description of Blackout game and the Weirdos but piece unfolded more as a highlight than an actual narrative (maybe that's what producers wanted). Reason for not higher score was wanted to learn more about Weirdos, esp for such an exciting game. More fan based video would have told better story esp over last 15 seconds of video. Didn't need to see random sideline video of players huddling. Give me fans.
