  • 3/12 10:19 pm - Your pacing was excellent in this piece. Your choices of when to make edits was well thought out and it felt very professional. The singer didn't match the words all the time and that did get distracting after a while. The story was easy to follow and was powerful and real. I think this a very nicely done music video.
  • 3/11 10:31 pm - Some great cinematic shots here! The narrative was very easy to follow, and that is important. Some of your shots are more powerful than others throughout the video, but it was beautifully done.

Positives: 1. I really appreciate your story. It was very honest and relatable, and that is what makes people want to continue watching. I think your selection of scenes and the actions that happened in those scenes were well done. They were simple, yet clear in their information. 2. I liked how you were creative with your editing choices and you really accentuated the beat and rhythm of the song. The flashback scenes were done well too, and helped add a backstory to the characters.

Improvements: 1. I think the ending of the story was missing some information for me. To my understanding, it was that Natalie moved on to someone else, but I was not sure why Emily was leaving with a suitcase. 2. The lip sync was slightly off. There are a couple potential causes of this. Usually the issue has to do with the time base of your edit sequence and of the song. If the cycle rates are not correct, then that can result in shifts and drifts. Often music files are around 48khz, but you want it to be 44.1khz when editing video. You can change the refresh rate without major shift in pitch using software like adobe audition or protools. This is usually the cause of sync issues, but it may not be the specific cause in your case.

Positives: Cuts to the beat at the beginning were well done. The diversity of locations and the variety of shots used in the piece added a good deal of production value. Camera work was solid. Framing, composition, exposure, focus, all well done.

Improvements: Some of the lip-sync was off and it took me out of the moment. Playback of the music on set as well as a playback monitor on set will help to avoid this. It is difficult for a viewer to read lips so understanding what the conflict between the girls was presented a challenge. In a music video it would be better to represent the conflict through visual metaphor rather than showing two characters we can't hear verbally arguing/fighting/communicating.
